Back to work

Following the closure of the shop I quickly discovered a couple of truths:
1) I have what is considered a "unique skill set"
2) I am either: A) Underqualified (having a 10 year old BS in electronic engineering without working professionally in the design field is like having a BS in artistic urination....... sans the ability to collect grant money from the National Endowment for the Arts). B) My experience is mostly undocumented despite my abilities and it would take years of documented work in any one field to reach the level of income I had obtained at my previous job.

So I just went into business for myself........ so far, so good, so nerve wracking.
I have a couple of commercial clients as of now and hope to add more.
Home based commercial repair ain't all bad though I just hope it all works out.

Yes, I'm still alive.....

But I must say, January really sucked, and February has been a busy month indeed.
My luck turned right after Christmas, beginning with the Flu resulting in a bleeding sinus infection and a trip to the doc. By New Years I was feeling well enough but I wound up getting a scratch on the cornea of my left eye that got infected, resulting in more doctor time and the subsequent loss of about 40% of my vision due to scarring. All through the suckatude I continued to work diligently through fever and blindness.
Then came the call from the owner of the company.......Close the business down.....in four days! Turns out that Mr Bigshot had in his absence continued to charge stuff to the company accounts while neglecting the little things, like taxes, W-2 witholding, and rent payment.... and, after a panic meeting with his accountant, found himself up a certain smelly creek with a turd for a paddle. I did the best I could to get everything back to the customers, but still got a hatchet to the windshield of my truck (which I had left unwisely parked behind the shop overnight) courtesy of some jackass.

A NOTE TO REPAIR CUSTOMERS: (regardless of what you want repaired or where you take it) "Back ordered" means that the Parts ARE NOT currently available to fix your unit. It is not the fault of the company performing the repair or its employees if the company must cancel said orders and return your stuff un-repaired because it's going out of business. Regardless of how long the order has been outstanding anyone expressing outrage will be reported to police as a potential suspect in case of vandalism.

Unfortunately I didn't keep a list.

Things are looking up now....... but that's the next post.
