....In service of my fascinations
Yippee.... tomorrow is the Hamfest...
And what the heck is a hamfest?
Every year the local amatuer radio club hosts a festival drawing hundreds of Ham radio operators, junk dealers, computer geeks and electronic communication afficianados, to a location seemingly publicized only to those in that circle, for FCC license exams, an electronic flea market, various and sundry communications related events, forums (including emergency communication preparedness) and the warm-fuzzy feelings of knowing that you are not the only nerd in the world - and perhaps not the nerdiest by a long shot.
I have been attending these regularly, with few exceptions, since I was literally in diapers.
My favorite part has always been the flea market. In the past it has proven a regular
Easter egg hunt of technological marvels the likes of which may only be found on Ebay in limited quantity. Past purchases have included antique radio tubes, a gieger counter, a device that is capable of activating brake lights by remote control ( in fact a radar detector tester), communications antennae, air horns, strobe lights, de-militerized night vision apparatus and various bits and pieces of stuff that can be reconfigured to suit my interests and fit my percieved needs! (oh yeah, can't forget Mother's day is coming fast, perhaps I'll find something for Mum).
I can hardly contain the excitement!
Ok, for those of you who didn't know already: I was raised by ham radio operators, Mom, Dad, Me, two cousins, an aunt, an uncle and my brother in law all have this stange trait in common - go figure.
